Ariana Grande Unveils New Single 11 Months After Manchester Arena Attack

Pop star Ariana Grande has released her first new song since the Manchester Arena attack which claimed the lives of 22 concertgoers last year.

Ariana had teased the track - called No Tears Left To Cry - all week before dropping it late on Thursday night.

"Ain't got no tears left to cry," she warbles on the chorus.

"So I'm picking it up, I'm picking it up, I'm loving, I'm living, I'm picking it up."

The release comes just under 11 months after her concert in Manchester was targeted by suicide bomber Salman Abedi, who detonated a home-made device in the foyer of the arena.

Ex-Liberian Warlord Jailed For Eating Human Hearts

A former Liberian warlord known as “Jungle Jabbah” was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Thursday for gaining U.S. asylum by lying about his role in the civil war in his homeland and atrocities he committed, U.S. prosecutors said on Thursday.

Mohammed Jabbateh, 51, who has lived in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, since the late 1990s, was found guilty in October on two counts of fraud in immigration documents and two counts of perjury.

During the height of Liberia’s first civil war from 1992 to 1995, Jabbateh, while serving as commander of a warring group, either personally committed or ordered acts such as rapes, ritual cannibalism, mutilation, murder and the use of child soldiers, according to prosecutors.

Two dozen witnesses, including 17 Liberian victims, testified in the trial. According to testimony, in one instance Jabbateh ordered that the heart of a captive be cooked and fed to his fighters.

In another, fighters under his command murdered a villager, removed his heart and ordered the town chief’s wife to cook it. Jabbateh later had the town chief himself murdered and ordered his widow to cook her husband’s heart.

“These are tall tales of enemies settling old scores – not because they had personal experiences with him but because of what group he’s identified with,” Pagano said at the trial, according to a posting on his website. “There is no greater motive than revenge.”

The case was investigated by special agents of Homeland Security Investigations, an arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

83-Year-Old Executed In Alabama Is Oldest Inmate Put To Death

Alabama has executed Walter Leroy Moody, 83, who had been convicted of murder for the mail bombing death of a federal judge in 1989.

Moody is the oldest person put to death since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976, according to figures compiled by the Death Penalty Information Center.

Earlier Thursday, the Supreme Court denied the appeals from Moody's attorney after temporarily delaying his death by lethal injection.

Moody was convicted in 1996 for the murder of federal Judge Robert Vance in Birmingham, Alabama.

"Moody has spent the better part of three decades trying to avoid justice. Tonight, Mr. Moody's appeals finally came to a rightful end. Justice has been served," Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said.

Moody's attorneys had appealed to the Supreme Court after Alabama's high court denied his petition for a stay of execution.

He was convicted in Alabama for sending a bomb that killed Vance, a federal appeals court judge. Moody, according to prosecutors, sought revenge on the court and the judge because they had previously refused to overturn his conviction in a 1972 bomb possession case.

Teddy Bear Suffocates Baby In Her Sleep After It Was Placed Near Her By Mom

A young mother has revealed the moment she discovered her baby daughter had been suffocated in her sleep by a stuffed toy at the side of her bed.

Dexy Leigh Walsh found 18-month-old Connie Rose’s body in her bed with the giant teddy on top of her. Despite desperate efforts to revive her, the baby was pronounced dead by paramedics after they arrived at the home in Dundee.

The 23-year-old mum says she had stuffed a narrow gap between Connie Rose’s bed and the wall with soft toys to stop her falling through.

But when she went to check on her, she found her underneath the 3ft-tall teddy and not breathing.

She told MailOnline: ‘It was just a normal school morning. I went through to the girls’ room to waken them up and get Dior ready for school. When I opened the door all I could see of my little girl was her legs sticking out from under the teddy.

‘She was lying face facing up in the bed but with the big teddy on top of her. She wasn’t breathing. I immediately started CPR on her while someone phoned for an ambulance.

‘I was speaking to the ambulance people as I tried to bring her around. My mum who lives closely arrived and she took over. When the paramedics came they tried as well but it was too late.

‘My little girl had gone.’

‘I just think now that if I had taken away all the soft toys out of the bed at night, she may have fallen out. She may have only hurt herself. Maybe a broken arm but she would still be with us, she added.

Connie Rose was buried on March 21, with family members releasing pink balloons into the sky in her memory.

Miss Walsh is now urging parents not to leave cuddly toys in young children’s beds overnight, through a campaign called The Connie Rose Awareness Facebook page.

‘I know every mum wants their child’s bed to look wonderful. To be covered in toys and maybe princess drapes and that is good. And that is all right during the day but at night they should all be taken away.

‘I just hope that my little girls tragic story will help stop another family having to go through what we have.’

Man In Court Over Alleged Attempt To Kill Father

The accused is facing a count charge of attempted culpable homicide, contrary to Section 229 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Amina Musa, declined to take his plea on the ground that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

Musa directed the police to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until May 10 for further mention.

Police prosecutor Muazu Abdullahi, had told the court that Mohammed of Kpaki village, Mokwa Local Government Area, attacked his father Mohammed Chado, with a cutlass while on his way to farm on April 15.

He said that the accused attempted to kill his father by cutting off his left hand and inflicted injuries on him.

Senate Invasion A Threat To Democracy – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said on Friday that Wednesday’s invasion of the Senate Chamber by suspected hoodlums was a violation of the nation’s security system and threat to the current democratic dispensation.

In a statement signed by its president, Ayuba Wabba, NLC said the episode was an unfortunate reminder of the dark days which the nation should do without.

The statement reads: “The invasion of the hallowed chamber of the Senate on Wednesday by hoodlums and miscreants who carted away the mace and other paraphernalia of authority is a violation of the sanctity of the Senate and constitutes a threat to our democracy. It represents a throw-back to those dark old days we are better off without.

“It is equally a sad commentary on the quality of representation. We therefore condemn it in its entirety. We similarly invite all who love Nigeria to rise and condemn this crude and sordid act or conduct.

“The Senate, from the days of the Greeks and Romans from whom the world borrowed this concept of democracy, has always been a sacred arena for the nobility (in carriage, thought or mind), the best and the brightest, the gifted in oratory, a hatchery of the supremacy of ideas delivered in the most sublime and profound language in furtherance of the interest of fatherland.

“As a House  packed full of representatives from different parts of the Republic, there are bound  to be differences (of opinion, tactics, strategy) and even conflicts but these are expected to be resolved in a dignified manner befitting of men and women of character and learning! It is for this reason, there are rules of engagement that every member is made to understand as a precondition to swearing in.

“It is in consideration of this that we consider what has happened as a big anomaly. We do also believe that the National Assembly Security apparatus should be called to question for laxity or compromise.

“Whereas they have often distinguished themselves by keeping at bay constituents and peaceful protesters from the precincts of the National Assembly, these thugs seem to have walked on a laid red carpet.

“Could these agencies have been acting alone? What is the degree of their complicity? Whichever way, we condemn this primitive conduct and demand sanctions. Let it never happen again. There are better methods no matter the issues.”

Jacob Zuma Fathered A Child With A 24-Year-Old

Former president Jacob Zuma has become a father again after a 24-year-old woman gave birth to his child in a Durban hospital last week. The child was born at the Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital last Thursday - Zuma's birthday.

Zuma is a polygamist who has fathered 22 known children from at least 11 women.  Different sources confirmed to News24 that Zuma came to visit his baby under strict security on Thursday night.

"They had to clear the maternity ward for other patients. Hospital staff made it clear that this was strictly confidential.

Ray Zuma, who is related to the former president, confirmed that Zuma was going to wed a woman named Nonkanyiso Chonco.

When asked if Chonco was the same woman who had given birth to a baby earlier this month, Ray Zuma responded by saying: "So?"

"I can't see why you are interested. When he was still the president, you [the media] were terrorising him, and now you are all of a sudden interested in him."

When asked about the details of the wedding, he said he was not privy to the details.

"No date has been set yet. Both families must come together to decide on the date. We are still in the pre-nuptial phases of the process."

An employee confirmed that Zuma had visited the facility.

"Yes he was here last week. I saw him with his security. I do not know why he came through."

But other sources confirmed the baby was Zuma's. Hospital staff were briefed to keep it a closely guarded secret and only told "this is JZ's child" and a "VIP delivery".

North Korea's Kim Promises No More Missile Tests

North Korea will halt nuclear or intercontinental ballistic missile tests and shut down its atomic test site, it said today in a move immediately welcomed by US President Donald Trump.

Pyongyang's declaration, long sought by Washington, will be seen as a crucial step in the fast diplomatic dance on and around the Korean peninsula.

North Korea said that to create an "international environment favourable" for its economy, it would "facilitate close contact and active dialogue" with neighbouring countries and the international community.

It was the first time Kim directly addressed his position on North Korea's nuclear weapons programmes ahead of planned summits with South Korean President Moon Jae-in next week and with US President Donald Trump in late May or early June.

The North had developed its weapons in what he called a "great victory", and so "no nuclear test and intermediate-range and inter-continental ballistic rocket test-fire are necessary for the DPRK now".

"The mission of the northern nuclear test ground has thus come to an end," he added at the gathering of the central committee of the Workers' Party, according to the official KCNA news agency.

The party decided that nuclear blasts and ICBM launches will cease as of Saturday - the North has not carried any out since November - and the atomic test site at Punggye-ri will be dismantled to "transparently guarantee" the end of testing.

Within minutes of the report being issued, Trump tweeted: "This is very good news for North Korea and the World - big progress! Look forward to our Summit."

Seoul too welcomed the announcement, calling it "meaningful progress" towards the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

UK Leads Fight To Eliminate Blindness

The UK is stepping up efforts to help eliminate trachoma, a painful bacterial infection that can lead to permanent loss of sight among some of the poorest people in the world.

At this week's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London the UK's international development secretary, Penny Mordaunt, has pledged an extra £20million to provide sight-saving antibiotics and surgery to people in 10 Commonwealth countries.

Trachoma, the leading infectious cause of blindness in the world, is an incredibly painful condition which can lead to permanent loss of sight. Less serious cases can be treated with antibiotics, while more severe cases require surgery. The World Health Organization is aiming for the disease to be wiped out around the world by 2020.

Government To Pay $8,000 To Families Of Those Killed By Wild Animals

The Namibian Government will pay up to 8,000 dollars to families of people killed by wild animals, as long as the behaviour that led to their deaths was not reckless, the Tourism Ministry said in a statement.

People, who were eaten by crocodiles or hippos while swimming in rivers known to be home to such animals will not be liable for compensation, the ministry said.

Namibia is a popular tourist destination because of its wildlife, and many of its national parks are located near human settlements.

Some villagers use the rivers to bath and wash their clothes – putting them at risk of crocodile attacks.

Statistics by the ministry show that nine people were killed in wild animal attacks in 2016, six in 2017, and four so far in 2018.

Covering Up Of Half-Naked Warrior Statue For Islamic Conference In Italy Criticised As Cultural Censorship

The covering up of a marble statue of a muscular, half-naked Greek warrior for a conference on Islam in Italy has drawn accusations of overly-zealous cultural censorship.

The reclining statue of Epaminondas, a fourth century BC general who fought for the liberation of the Greek city-state of Thebes, was draped in a red satin sheet to spare the sensibilities of Muslim delegates.

Conservative politicians seized on the case, claiming it was an example of Italy going too far to accommodate the feelings of immigrant communities.

“Am I the only one who thinks this is madness?” said Matteo Salvini, the leader of the Right-wing League party, which has been involved in tortuous negotiations to form a new government after last month’s general election produced no clear winner and a hung parliament.

Laura Comi, an MEP from Forza Italia, the centre-Right party run by former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, said: “We should be proud of our cultural heritage. Censoring is unacceptable.”

Ylenia Lucaselli, from the hard-Right Brothers of Italy party, said the covering up of the statue was “a collateral effect of failed multiculturalism”.

The statue is on display in a theatre in the town of Cairo Montenotte, in the northwestern region of Liguria.

A red sheet was draped over it at the weekend for a conference organised by the Islamic Confederation of Italy and the Islamic Federation of Liguria, even though in its original state, a cloth carved from marble covers the general’s genital area.

Organisers denied that religious sensibilities were behind the decision to obscure the figure’s nether regions.

“I covered the statue but only for ceremonial reasons and just for a few hours,” said Chams Eddine Lahcen, the head of the Islamic Federation of Liguria.

He said it “clashed with the setting” of the conference, which was focused on inter-religious dialogue and was designed to “bring everyone together”.

University Graduate Is Believed To Be The First Woman Convicted Under New Domestic Abuse Laws

A university graduate is believed to be the first woman convicted under new domestic abuse laws after scalding her boyfriend with boiling water, stabbing him and keeping food from him.

Jordan Worth, 22, banned her partner from their bed, decided what clothes he could wear, isolated him from friends and family and even took over his Facebook account.

She was jailed for seven-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to the offence of controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship, introduced in 2015, as well as wounding with intent and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Worth, who came from a loving and supportive family, made her boyfriend’s life a misery, exercising control over him and deciding what he could wear shortly after they moved in together, Luton Crown Court heard.

Raised in Ridgmont, Herts, she had been a high performer at school and was a trained gymnast.

She gained a 2:1 Honours Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Hertfordshire and had been volunteering for an animal charity but wanted to become a teacher.

She had also raised money children in Africa.

But Judge Nic Madge heard that there were two sides to petite Worth, who controlled every aspect of her partner’s life at their home in the village of Stewartby in Bedfordshire.

Worth and her partner had met at college in 2012 when they were both 16, Maryam Syed, prosecuting, told the court.

She became violent towards the man, who suffered from hydrocephalus (caused by a buildup of fluid inside the skull) that made him vulnerable. She used blunt objects to strike him, wounded him with a knife and didn’t help him get to hospital for treatment.

For nine months he was not permitted to sleep in the same bed as her, the court was told.
The victim was heard by his neighbours shouting at Worth: “Get off me, you are hurting me.” He was seen on occasions with black eyes and to be limping and with his arm in sling.

Once Worth was seen at window by a neighbour “armed” with a screwdriver or hammer, the court heard.

Another neighbour heard the victim shouting “Get off me. Get off my head. Don’t keep doing that to my head.”

When paramedics were called, they noted injuries to his hand and burns to arms and legs, which were being self-treated with cling film.

He was taken to Bedford Hospital’s acute clinical unit and then to Addenbrookes Hospital. Miss Syed said: “Five per cent of his total body surface was scalded.” Days later, Worth was arrested.

He said she would “belittle” her partner and discouraged him from contacting friends and his family.“"She accepts that she has in the past, on a number of occasions, used blunt objects and implements to strike him and that he suffered injuries as a result of her doing so,” he said.

“She accepts using boiling or hot water to cause injury to him. She accepts that she has in the past used a knife to cause injury to her partner.

“He suffered from hydrocephalus and had a vulnerable head and he became increasingly isolated.”

Worth, who is now in a new relationship, was made the subject of a restraining order which prevents her from contacting her ex for an indefinite period.

20-Year-Old Welder Killed At Politician’s Residence

The Police Command in Borno on Tuesday confirmed that one person was killed in Maiduguri during a gathering at the resident of a politician, Mr Grema Terab. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu, told newsmen in Maiduguri that the command had arrested 24 persons in connection with the killing which occurred on April 15.

Chukwu disclosed that men of the command had recovered the corpse of a 20-year-old welder, Maina Mustapha, at the residence of the politician. He said the command had earlier declined request by Terab to hold a political meeting at his residence in GRA area of Maiduguri.

“Terab sent a request in a letter with a PDP logo, seeking permission to hold a meeting at his residence in the GRA area. “The letter was signed by Terab and not by the PDP Chairman or any other official of the party.

“And considering the appearance of a party logo on the letter, we notified him that the command would not permit political gathering within residential areas and advised him to hold the meeting at public places or hotels to enable us to provide security.

“Terab acted against the command’s position, held the meeting at his residence and in the process one persons was stabbed to death,” he said.

The commissioner added that Terab, who was the convener of the meeting, went into hiding and ordered him to report to the nearest police station. He said that investigation into the case had begun.

UK Visa Applicant Bags Three Years For Lying About His Marital Statues

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Tuesday sentenced a UK visa applicant, Kolawole Viyon, to three years imprisonment for giving false information about his marital status.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission had arraigned Viyon for allegedly lying about his marital status.

Justice Mojisola Dada, who gave the ruling, said the accused person was guilty as charged.

Following a plea bargain entered into with the prosecution, the judge, however, gave Viyon an option of N.3m fine.

“Following the defendant’s guilty plea, he is hereby convicted accordingly. The terms of the plea bargain agreement are hereby adopted as the sentence of this court and the judgment thereof.

Travis Scott Fires Back At Promoter Suing Him

Travis Scott is firing back at the promoter who sued him for bailing on a Super Bowl weekend concert, while keeping the dough he'd been paid.

Travis filed a response to PJAM's lawsuit against him, but also filed his own countersuit against the company. According to the docs, Travis says the promoter never sent him a confirmed travel itinerary for the Minnesota show. He says right up to Feb. 3, the scheduled day of the show, he hadn't received the travel plans.

In his suit, Travis says he learned PJAM lacked the cash to cover his transportation or the remaining money he was owed for the performance. He admits they did pay him $150k in advance.

Travis is also pissed because he believes someone from PJAM spoke to TMZ about his gig ahead of time. He says that's a violation of the confidentiality agreement both sides signed for the show.

Sources close to Travis had said at the time he canceled it was due to weather and logistics, but PJAM thinks he flat-out "refused to show up to the event."

PJAM was suing to get its money back, and damages. Travis is suing to get the additional payment he never got.

Southwest Airlines Jet Engine 'Explosion' Leaves Woman Dead

A woman who was partially sucked out of a window of a US passenger plane after an engine exploded in mid-air has died.

Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 made an emergency landing in Philadelphia after a window, wings and fuselage were damaged. Seven passengers were injured.

Initial findings say an engine fan blade was missing. In a recording, one of the pilots can be heard saying "there is a hole and someone went out".

The Boeing 737-700 had been en route from New York's La Guardia airport to Dallas, Texas, with 143 passengers and five crew when the incident happened.

Witnesses say an engine on the plane's left side blew, smashing a window and causing cabin depressurisation that nearly sucked the woman out of the aircraft.

She was pulled back in by other passengers.

The plane made a safe landing at 11:20 (15:20 GMT), fire officials said.

The dead woman was Jennifer Riordan, a mother-of-two and bank vice-president at Wells Fargo in Albuquerque.

Indian Minister Mocked For Saying Ancient Indians Invented The Internet

A minister who has claimed that the internet was invented thousands of years ago by ancient Indians is being met with ridicule.

Biplab Deb, who is the chief minister of the north-eastern state of Tripura, made the comments at a public function on Tuesday evening.

He cited an example from the ancient Hindu epic Mahabharata to prove his point, but has not found many takers.

"Tripura CM Biplap Deb" is trending on Twitter, with many Indians mocking him. Mr Deb, in fact, joins a fairly long list of Indian ministers in the current Hindu nationalist BJP government - including Prime Minister Narendra Modi - who have claimed many modern-day scientific or technological achievements were invented in many centuries ago.

In 2014 Mr Modi told a gathering of doctors and medical staff at a Mumbai hospital that cosmetic surgery existed in ancient India.

More recently, in September, junior education minister Satyapal Singh raised a few eyebrows when he claimed that the airplane was first mentioned in the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana.

Blac Chyna Claims Rob Kardashian Personally Asked For Their Reality Show Not To Be Cancelled

Blac Chyna has claimed that Rob Kardashian personally asked producer Ryan Seacrest for Rob and Chyna not to be cancelled, according to court documents obtained by The Blast.

The 29-year-old star says her ex-partner - with whom she shares daughter Dream - was keen to continue with the pair's E! reality show and they were already working on a new season.

Court documents submitted by Chyna claims that the second season of the show began filming in early 2017, despite the paperwork having not been finished.

The lawsuit states: 'Reality television thrives on colourful personalities engaging in conflict. If anything, the E! network saw more potential in a second season given the success of season one and the new, unpredictable co-parenting relationship between Chyna and Rob.'

Chyna is currently fighting the Kardashian/Jenner clan in court after claiming they were conspiring to end her television show 'Rob and Chyna'.

Accusing one unspecified member of the family, she claimed they had said 'the show is giving this toxic woman money and exposure she lives and breathes for and by continuing it ... she will proceed with using and physically abusing my brother'.

Chyna had accused the 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' stars of trying to destroy her career and 'coming after' her after she split from Rob.

Her court documents stated: 'The unwritten rule no one told (her) when she began her relationship with Kardashian is that the entire family will come after you if you leave, using their fame, wealth and power to take you down, including getting your television show cancelled (despite great ratings), spreading lies about you, and even funding a bogus lawsuit about a crumbled gingerbread house.'

Previous court documents filed by Chyna - whose real name is Angela White - accused the entire Kardashian family of interfering with the shooting of the couple's reality show.

Her filing stated: 'Rob Kardashian is an abuser intent on destroying Angela White, the mother of his baby, who left him in 2016.

'In revenge, the Kardashian-Jenner family became media predators, slut-shaming her on social media and killing her hit television show, which had already begun filming a second season.

'Rob Kardashian and his powerful, vindictive family have done enough damage to Ms. White's career and professional reputation, which she singlehandedly built from scratch - without the help of a famous last name. This lawsuit seeks to hold them accountable.'

It was to honour Kano’s most influential politician of all times and the revered leader of the talakawa, the late Mallam Aminu Kano.

The former Lagos State governor, who was represented by Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, said: “When someone can do for you in three years what another did not even try in 16 years, any person with an open eye can see the difference between giver and taker, between friend and thief.”

He added: “The Buhari government has spent inordinate time cleaning the rot and plugging the holes in the corrupt system the others had institutionalised as their strategic policy and national direction.”

According to him, “the APC has been working to steer our national ship from this awful direction in order that we may bring the people and their welfare into safe harbour.

Tinubu explained that, “had the billions of dollars and trillions of naira that were stolen by past governments been used for the people, the nation would have been able to acquire the infrastructure and implement the programmes that bring greater development and economic justice to all.

“Instead, the select few ate more than their bellies could contain. Distorting the course of justice and hijacking the means of national welfare, they wildly enriched themselves and left the average Nigerian to dine on the passing wind.”
